A neoclassical royal palace in Belém, begun in the early 19th century after the earthquake destroyed the previous palace and still unfinished at the time of the 1910 revolution. The state rooms that were completed contain a precious library and fine collections of furniture, silverware, and decorative arts. Less visited than the Jerónimos Monastery nearby.
