Igreja de São Pedro

The Igreja de São Pedro is a smaller church than Santa Maria but holds the tomb of Josefa de Óbidos, the most celebrated of the town's residents and one of the few notable Portuguese women painters of the 17th century. Her tombstone is set into the floor near the high altar.

The church is plain Baroque, gilded inside, and rarely crowded. Open mornings and late afternoons — closed during the long midday break.
