Argeș County Museum

The Argeș County Museum is the main cultural institution in Pitești, housed in a central location and divided into natural history, history, and art collections. The history section traces the development of the Argeș region from antiquity through the 20th century, with particular attention to Dacian and Roman finds from the area.

The art section holds a solid collection of Romanian painting from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It's a good starting point for understanding the region's context before heading out to the monasteries and archaeological sites of Argeș County.

story: "The museum holds finds from the Roman provincial city of Romula, once one of the most important urban centres in Roman Dacia — yet largely forgotten today in favour of the more famous Dacian forts in the mountains."
