Eating Out

Serbian food is hearty and meat-centred: grilled meats (ćevapi, pljeskavica, roštilj), slow-braised stews, and dishes from both the Ottoman and Central European traditions. The kafanas of Skadarlija — traditional restaurants with long tables, white tablecloths, and strolling musicians — are the most atmospheric places to eat in the city. For everyday eating, burek pastry shops open early and close late. The cafe strip along Strahinjića Bana and the restaurants around the Dorćol neighbourhood offer more contemporary options.
