Getting Around

Portorož is a compact town and the central area around the beach and promenade is easily walkable. Most of the main attractions — the beach, the promenade, the spa hotels, the auditorium — are within fifteen minutes on foot of each other.

On foot: The broad coastal promenade is the main axis for walking, and it extends continuously from Portorož into Piran (about 2 km). Walking to Piran along the seafront takes 20–30 minutes and is one of the most pleasant ways to arrive in the old town.

By bus: Local buses connect Portorož to Piran (10 minutes), Lucija, and Koper. Services run frequently in summer and less often out of season. The tourist minibus that runs along the promenade is useful for covering the length of the resort quickly.

By bicycle: Bicycle rental is available from several points around the town. The flat coastal terrain makes cycling easy; the route south to the Sečovlje salt pans (about 5 km) and the Forma Viva sculpture park at Seča (about 3 km) are both accessible on a standard rental bike. A separated cycle path runs much of the coastal route.

By taxi: Taxis are available from the main stands near the hotels and bus stops. Ride-hailing apps used in Slovenia include Bolt. Taxi from Portorož to Piran costs roughly €5–8.

By car: Central Portorož is best navigated on foot in summer; driving in the resort zone is restricted during peak hours. A car is useful for day trips to Sečovlje, Lipica, or into the Slovenian interior.
