Getting There

By air: Portorož Airport (IATA: POW) is a small regional airport about 5 km south of the town. It handles seasonal charter flights from Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, and other Central European countries, but has no year-round scheduled services. For most visitors, the nearest practical airports are Venice Marco Polo (about 120 km), Trieste (about 50 km), and Ljubljana Jože Pučnik (about 130 km). Ljubljana airport has good connections throughout Europe.

By car: Portorož is straightforward to reach by car from most of Central Europe. From Ljubljana, take the A1/H5 motorway towards Koper, then follow the coastal road south. The drive takes about 2 hours. From Venice or Trieste the approach is via Italy and the Slovenian border crossing at Lazaret; the drive from Trieste takes about 40 minutes. Parking in Portorož is paid throughout the summer season; hotel guests usually have access to hotel parking.

By bus: Frequent buses connect Portorož to Koper (30 minutes), Piran (10 minutes), and Ljubljana (2.5 hours). The Arriva Slovenia bus network covers these routes; the timetable is denser in summer. The main bus stop in Portorož is near the Hotel Riviera on the seafront.

By train: There is no direct train to Portorož. The nearest train station is Koper, served by trains from Ljubljana. From Koper, buses or taxis connect to Portorož.
