Estepona Beach

Several kilometres of relatively uncrowded sandy beach on the western Costa del Sol

Estepona's main beach runs for about 17 km along the coast, though the most popular section is the Playa de la Rada adjacent to the centre of town. The sand here is grey-brown rather than white, typical of the western Costa del Sol, and the beach is wide enough that even in high season it doesn't feel packed. The promenade (paseo maritimo) is long, well-maintained, and backed by low-rise buildings rather than the tower blocks that blighted other parts of the coast.

The beach area west of the marina is slightly quieter and accessed by following the paseo. Beach bars (chiringuitos) provide drinks and simple seafood from late spring through early autumn. The water is clean and the swimming is safe; summer water temperatures reach around 24°C. The light in the late afternoon is good — the beach faces southwest and catches the evening sun fully.
