Triana

Triana sits across the Guadalquivir from central Seville and has always had its own fierce identity. This was historically the neighbourhood of sailors, potters, and flamenco artists, and that creative spirit persists in the ceramic workshops along Calle Alfareria and the flamenco roots that run deeper here than anywhere else in the city. Calle Betis lines the riverbank with a string of bars and restaurants offering views back toward the city centre, making it the prime sunset spot. The Mercado de Triana, built over the ruins of the Inquisition castle, is a lively food market worth a morning visit. Triana feels like a separate village that happens to be connected by a bridge, with a more local, working-class energy that makes a refreshing contrast to the monumental centre.
