Museo de Arte Contemporáneo

The contemporary art museum occupying the old village castle-palace (Castillo-Palacio) grew out of the international sculpture symposium that has been held in Hecho every summer since 1975. Artists from across Europe and beyond were invited to work in the village, leaving their finished pieces behind — the museum now holds the indoor collection while sculptures remain scattered through the village streets and square.

The combination of contemporary work in a medieval Pyrenean village is genuinely surprising. The building itself, a converted fortified residence, adds to the effect. Check locally for opening times, which vary by season.
