La Hoya Archaeological Site

On the outskirts of Laguardia, La Hoya is one of the most important Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements in the Basque Country. The site preserves the outlines of an entire proto-historic village — streets, house foundations, and evidence of metalworking — occupied from roughly 1500 BCE until it was violently destroyed around 350 BCE. A small on-site museum displays finds from the excavations including ceramics, bronze objects, and human remains. The site is a 15-minute walk north of the old town walls along an easy track through the vineyards.
