Playa de Bollullo is a handsome black-sand beach just east of Puerto de la Cruz, set below cliffs in the El Rincón area of La Orotava. The walk in through banana plantations is part of the pleasure, and the beach feels much less urban than the town's central swimming spots.
The Atlantic is not gentle here. Waves and currents can be serious, so swim only when conditions are clearly safe and respect local warnings. Even if you stay out of the water, the beach is worth it for the volcanic sand, surf, and north-coast setting.
