The gorge carved by the Huécar river forms the eastern boundary of the old city. A footpath descends from near the Hanging Houses and follows the river along the base of the cliffs — one of the most dramatic walks in central Spain. Looking up, the old city walls and the undersides of the Hanging Houses loom overhead. The path is mostly level and easy, though it can be slippery after rain. Allow 45 minutes for the full circuit back up to the old town.
