Sabadell Art Museum

The Museu d'Art de Sabadell holds a collection of Catalan and European art spanning from the medieval period through the twentieth century, with particular strength in the Modernisme and Noucentisme movements that dominated Catalan culture in the early 1900s. The collection includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and applied arts. It is a municipal museum of modest scale but solid quality.

The building is in the city centre and the collection is well-labelled. For visitors passing through rather than studying, an hour is enough to see the highlights. The museum charges a small admission fee and is typically closed on Mondays.

A story
The Sabadell Art Museum owes its existence to the prosperity of the textile industry: wealthy mill owners and merchants donated paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, building a collection that reflects both international artistic trends and the particular taste of industrialist Catalonia. The museum is one of several dozen Catalan municipal museums that collectively document this era of local wealth.
