Bars and Cafes

Drinking life in Badajoz happens around Plaza de España, Plaza Alta, and the narrow streets of the old town that radiate from the cathedral. The local default is a caña of cold beer — almost always with a free tapa — but the wine list at most bars also includes the underrated reds from Tierra de Barros to the east, made from Tempranillo and the local Cayetana grape.

Nightlife is concentrated in the Plaza de Cervantes area and the narrow streets just south of the old town, with student bars open until the small hours during the academic year.
