The green heart of modern Badajoz, laid out in 1892 on a former tobacco field just south of the old town walls. The park is informally landscaped with palm trees, magnolias, an artificial lake with ducks, a bandstand, and gravel paths popular with morning joggers and evening passeggiata.
The bronze statue of Carolina Coronado, the 19th-century Extremaduran poet, sits at the centre. Cafes and a children's playground make it a useful pause between sightseeing in the old town and the museums further south. On summer evenings the bandstand sometimes hosts free concerts.
