Lugo's old town contains several churches worth a detour. The parish church of San Pedro occupies the former temple of the convent of San Francisco, notable for its Gothic apse and façade. The convent of Santo Domingo was founded in the 13th century and substantially altered in the 17th; its surviving church is today the parish of Santiago. The Baroque period left its mark on the church of San Froilán, the church of the Carmen and the chapel of San Roque. Outside the city walls, the Romanesque churches of Meilán, Bacerín and Mazo are worth seeking out, along with the Baroque church at the Burgo.
