Housed in a former convent, the Provincial Museum of Lugo covers the region's long history from prehistoric gold artefacts through the Roman period to the medieval era. The highlights are the old cloisters, which display architectural remains spanning Roman, medieval and later periods, and two large Roman floor mosaics visible in full from the gallery above. The entrance is free. After leaving the museum, it is worth walking towards the nearby shopping mall built over a Pazo: in the basement, a stretch of Roman road was uncovered during construction and left in place for visitors to see.
