The main university building (Universitetshuset) at Lundagård park is the architectural centrepiece of Lund University, a confident neo-Renaissance edifice from 1882 in yellow-grey sandstone. The park in front of it — between the main building and the cathedral — is the symbolic heart of the university and the traditional gathering place for student celebrations. On Valborg (30 April), thousands of students converge here in white student caps.
The interior contains ceremonial halls and the University Art Collection, which is accessible during opening hours. The building's most visited space is the main hall (Aula), which hosts graduations and concerts. Even from the outside, the building's scale and the park setting make it one of the most impressive university campuses in Scandinavia.
