Stanserhorn is one of the classic mountain trips from the Lucerne area. The journey starts with a funicular and continues by the CabriO cable car, whose open upper deck turns the ride itself into part of the attraction.
At the top you get broad views over Lake Lucerne, the surrounding peaks, and the patchwork of central Switzerland below. Go in clear weather; on a cloudy day the expensive ascent loses much of its point.
