The Forum is a large curved glass building on Millennium Plain, built in 2001 on the site of the old Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. It houses the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library — one of the busiest public libraries in England — along with a café, BBC Norfolk studios, tourist information, and an exhibition space. The building is unusual in Norwich's predominantly medieval and Victorian streetscape: a confident piece of contemporary architecture that uses the open public space in front of it well.
The glass facade reflects the nearby City Hall and St Peter Mancroft and creates a different kind of civic space to the cramped medieval lanes nearby. It's worth stepping inside for the library itself, which is genuinely good, and for a coffee in the café overlooking Millennium Plain.
