Chichester Cross

The Chichester Cross is the elaborate Perpendicular market cross at the intersection of the city's four main Roman streets — North, South, East and West Street. Built around 1501 by Bishop Edward Story to provide shelter and seating for poor traders, it is unusually large for an English market cross, with eight stone-vaulted arches and a clock tower added later. It is still the meeting point of the city, busiest at lunchtime and on Saturdays.
