Moseley Old Hall

Timbered National Trust house where Charles II hid after the Battle of Worcester.

Moseley Old Hall is a timber-framed house north of Wolverhampton with one of England’s better royal escape stories. After the Battle of Worcester in 1651, the defeated Charles II hid here while Parliamentary troops searched the area. The priest hole and small rooms make that episode feel close rather than abstract.

The house is now run by the National Trust, with gardens, period interiors, and interpretation aimed at the Civil War story. It is a little outside the city centre, but it earns the trip if you enjoy lived-in historic houses more than grand stately homes.
