Glover's Needle

Glover's Needle — properly the tower and spire of the former St Andrew's Church — is the most distinctive silhouette on the Worcester skyline after the Cathedral. The church itself was demolished in the 1940s after bomb damage, but the 55-metre spire was preserved as a listed structure and now stands alone in a small public garden, an elegant pointed finger of medieval stonework rising from the street level.

The name comes from the city's historic glove-making industry; this part of Worcester was once dominated by the trade. Worcester was the centre of the English glove trade for several centuries, supplying gauntlets to the English court and battle gloves to the armies of the Civil War. The needle itself is not open to enter, but it is a landmark worth finding on any walk through the city centre.
