Hull Maritime Museum

Domed Victorian dock office on Queen Victoria Square, now a museum of Hull's shipping, whaling, and fishing history

The Hull Maritime Museum occupies the city's old dock offices — a triangular Victorian building with three distinctive domes that survived the wartime bombing largely intact. The collections cover Hull's centuries as a whaling port, its dominance of the British distant-water fishing fleet, and the wider story of trade through the Humber.

The museum closed in 2018 for an ambitious multi-year restoration as part of the city's Maritime project, which also covers the Spurn Lightship and the Arctic Corsair trawler. Reopening dates have shifted several times — check the current status before visiting. When open, the building's interior is as much a draw as the collection: ornate plasterwork, mosaic floors, and a court room used by the dock company in its heyday.
