Kingston Square

Quiet Georgian square north of the centre, framed by terraces and the Hull New Theatre

Kingston Square is one of Hull's prettiest pockets of Georgian architecture, a small leafy square ringed by stuccoed terraces and townhouses. The Hull New Theatre, converted from the Assembly Rooms, sits on the western side. The square escaped most of the wartime bombing that flattened large parts of the city to the south.

It is a quiet five-minute walk from the centre and worth a detour if you are heading from Queen's Gardens to the New Theatre or the Hull History Centre. Several of the houses are now university offices and small consultancies; the central garden is open to the public.
