Streetlife Museum of Transport

Free transport museum on High Street with a recreated Victorian street, horse-drawn carriages, vintage cars, and old trams

The Streetlife Museum tells the story of transport in Britain through reconstructed environments rather than glass cases. A full Victorian high street has been built indoors — chemists, sweet shops, a tailor — complete with sound effects of horses and hawkers. Around it are bicycles from the boneshaker era, horse-drawn carriages, early motor cars, a recreated 1940s railway station, and a small but lovingly maintained tram collection.

It is one of Hull's free museums, sits opposite Wilberforce House, and is particularly good for children — but the recreations are detailed enough to reward adult attention too. Allow at least an hour. Combined with Wilberforce House and the Hull and East Riding Museum next door, you have a comfortable morning of museums on a single block of High Street.
