Cayton Bay

Broad beach south of Scarborough, popular for surfing, fossil hunting, and cliff-backed walks.

Cayton Bay is the beach to know when Scarborough's main sands feel too busy. South of town, it has a broader, more open feel, with cliffs behind it and enough wave action to make it one of the Yorkshire coast's regular surf spots.

The beach is also good for walkers and fossil hunters, though tides and cliff conditions deserve respect. Come with layers, check access before setting out, and consider it a half-day change of pace from Scarborough's harbour, castle, and amusement arcades.
