Oliver's Mount rises above Scarborough with broad views over the town, South Bay, the castle headland, and the North Yorkshire coast. It is an easy place to understand why Scarborough became a resort: from up here the curve of the bay and the line of cliffs make the whole town read at once.
The mount is also famous for motorcycle road racing, with a tight street circuit running around the hill. On race weekends it becomes a very different place, noisy and crowded; outside those dates it is more useful as a viewpoint, picnic stop, and short walk. Pair it with nearby Mere Country Park if you want a quieter escape from the seafront.
