Forge Valley Woods gives Scarborough a green inland counterpoint to the harbour, beach, and castle. The valley follows the River Derwent through woodland, with easy paths and boardwalk sections that make it a gentle nature stop rather than a serious hike.
It is especially good if the seafront is windy or crowded. Look for spring flowers, autumn colour, and birds along the water, then return to town with a better sense of the countryside just behind the resort.
