The Devonshire Quarter is one of Sheffield's better areas for wandering without a fixed plan. Around Division Street and Devonshire Green, the city shifts from civic centre to independent shops, record stores, cafes, bars, and student-heavy street life.
It is not a single monument, but it is useful for travellers because it gives Sheffield some texture between museums and theatres. Come in the late afternoon if you want the area at its liveliest, then continue toward Kelham Island or the city centre depending on whether you are after beer, food, or galleries.
