An Aird is the small park and Shinty pitch on the loch shore just north of the town centre, with a long curving promenade that gives the best easy view of Loch Linnhe and the hills of Ardgour rising directly across the water. On a clear evening it is the place to walk before dinner. The local Shinty side, Kingussie or Newtonmore matches, draws a noisy crowd in summer.
The park is also the assembly point for the West Highland Way, which finishes here after its 96 miles from Milngavie. The cairn at the end of the path is a low-key but slightly emotional sight on a summer afternoon, with weary walkers slumping onto it for photographs.
