Glen Nevis

Glen Nevis is the deep U-shaped valley that runs east from Fort William between Ben Nevis to the north and the Mamores to the south. The drive up the single-track road past the campsite and the visitor centre is one of the most cinematic in Britain — the slopes of the Ben tower a kilometre overhead, waterfalls tumble down both sides, and the river cuts a series of deep pools and small gorges through the granite floor.

The road ends at a car park three miles up, from which a footpath continues through a steep wooded gorge to the open upper glen and on to the spectacular Steall Falls. The walk is short — twenty minutes to the gorge, an hour to the falls — but feels remote. Several scenes from Highlander, Braveheart, and the Harry Potter films were shot in the glen.
