Ardchattan Priory is a peaceful ruin on Loch Etive, founded in the thirteenth century and later folded into a private estate. It does not have the scale of Scotland's great abbeys, but its setting gives it a quiet pull.
The remains are best visited slowly, with time for the gardens and the view over the loch. From Oban it works as a gentle historical detour into a less crowded corner of Argyll, especially for travellers already exploring north toward Connel and Benderloch.
