St John's Cathedral

St John's Cathedral is Oban's Scottish Episcopal cathedral, tucked into the town centre among shops rather than set apart on a grand close. Building began in 1863 and then stalled through several phases, leaving an odd, memorable interior where steel girders prop up work that was never fully completed.

It is not Oban's largest landmark, but it rewards a quick look if you are already exploring the harbour streets. The unfinished structure gives it a different character from the more conventional churches around town.
