Dunollie Castle stands on a wooded headland just north of Oban, looking across the bay toward Kerrera and the islands beyond. The ruined tower is tied to Clan MacDougall, and the surrounding grounds, museum spaces, and paths turn it into more than a quick photo stop.
It is closer and more intimate than Dunstaffnage, with a strong sense of place above the water. Walk from town if the weather is kind, and allow time for the museum and woodland rather than just climbing to the ruin.
