Holyhead Market Hall

The cast-iron and red-brick Market Hall of 1855 is one of the more handsome public buildings in the town centre, a relic of Holyhead's brief boom as the Victorian gateway to Ireland. It was designed by John Welch in an Italianate style, with a wide arcaded ground floor that originally housed the produce stalls and an upper hall used for public meetings.

The market trade has dwindled, but the building is still in occasional use and worth a look from the outside. The clock in the central pediment is a town landmark.
