Golf carts are the default transport on Ambergris Caye. Rental shops are clustered near the water taxi dock and the airstrip, and rates run around US$60–80 per day, less for a half-day. Most of the island is accessible on a standard cart; the rough tracks north of the second bridge require a 4WD model.
The town centre is compact enough to walk — Barrier Reef Drive is the main strip and most restaurants, bars, and dive shops are within a 10-minute walk of each other. Bicycles are available to rent but the sandy roads make cycling harder work than it looks.
To reach the reef and outer cayes, you need a boat. Dive operators and tour boats run from the main dock throughout the morning. A water taxi shuttle runs between the north and south of the bridge cut for pedestrians.
