The Belize Barrier Reef is the main event in San Pedro. Running just offshore, it is the largest barrier reef in the Northern Hemisphere and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and the reason most visitors come here at all. Snorkeling and diving are the primary activities, and the quality is exceptional: clear water, abundant marine life, and easy access from the beach.
Beyond the reef, rent a golf cart and explore the island north and south of town. The beaches north of the bridge are quieter and less developed. Fishing trips, manatee-watching tours on the lagoon side, and kayaking fill out the options for those who want time in the water without diving gear.
