Sacred Heart Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kamloops and one of the city's defining buildings — a tall pale-yellow church on Nicola Street built in 1887 (with a major renovation in the 1980s after fire damage) in a restrained late-Victorian Gothic style. The single bell-tower is visible across much of central downtown.
The interior is calm and lit, with a notable 1990s set of stained-glass windows by the BC artist Ed Bartram. The cathedral remains an active parish church; visitors are welcome outside services. With St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral four blocks away, central Kamloops has two cathedrals of almost identical age, both worth seeing.
