Calabogie is a small Ottawa Valley village that has made itself useful in every season. It sits on Calabogie Lake, below low forested hills, about an hour west of Ottawa by car. The village itself is tiny, but the surrounding area has enough specific draws to justify a day away from the capital.
In winter, Calabogie Peaks is the main reason to come, with downhill skiing on Dickson Mountain and snow tubing when conditions cooperate. In warmer months, the same area turns to hiking, mountain biking, golf, and lake time. Calabogie Motorsports Park adds a very different kind of noise: track days and racing on a five-kilometre road course.
This is not a deep-culture town or a place to wander for architecture. Treat it as an activity base: ski, drive, golf, paddle, ride, or use the old rail corridors and forest trails for a quiet day outdoors.
