Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory is a compact but memorable stop north of the city, built around a warm tropical garden where butterflies fly freely around visitors. It is especially good in winter, when the contrast between Ontario weather and the humid greenhouse is part of the pleasure.
The visit is easy to pace: walk slowly, let the butterflies come to you, and look for caterpillars and emerging adults in the interpretive areas. It is a family-friendly attraction, but photographers and garden-minded travellers will get plenty from it too.
