Big Otter Creek

Big Otter Creek runs around 100 kilometres from the Norfolk Sand Plain through forest and farmland and empties into Lake Erie at Port Burwell harbour. The lower stretch — from the village of Vienna down to the lake — is a quiet, tannin-brown river running between low banks of willow and silver maple, popular for canoeing, kayaking, and small-boat fishing.

A rental concession in town runs canoes and kayaks by the hour. The paddle downstream from the Vienna bridge to the lake takes around two hours and finishes with the harbour and the submarine on your right; arrange a pickup or paddle back up against the current.
