Kew Gardens

The Beaches' central park, linking Queen Street to the boardwalk

Address 2075 Queen Street East, The Beaches

The green heart of the Beaches, a mature park that runs from the Queen Street East shops down toward the boardwalk and the lake. Originally a private pleasure garden opened in the 1870s, it became a public park early in the 20th century and still has the feel of a village common — old trees, a bandstand, tennis courts, and a small library branch.

It is the focal point for the neighbourhood's community life: the Beaches Jazz Festival and other summer events centre on it, and at any time it is the natural place to pause between the shopping strip and the water. An ice rink takes over part of the park in winter.
