A long, flat black-sand beach on the eastern shore of the Golfo Dulce, reached from Golfito by a 30-minute water taxi or a longer overland drive via Río Claro. Zancudo is a true end-of-the-road place — a strip of small lodges, beach restaurants, and not much else, backed by mangrove and palm.
The swimming is good, the surf gentle (this is the gulf side, not open Pacific), and the sunsets directly into the gulf are the local set piece. A handful of laid-back bars stay open late on weekends; the rest of the time it is very quiet.
