Potrero itself is small enough to walk. The beach road, a few side streets, and the waterfront cover the village in under twenty minutes on foot. Playa Flamingo to the south is a five-minute drive or a longish walk along the coast.
For anything beyond the immediate area — Tamarindo (40 minutes south), Liberia, the national parks — a rental car or a hired driver is the realistic option. There are no local buses serving Potrero directly. Quad bikes and scooters are available for rent locally and suit the condition of the roads well enough in the dry season; in the wet season stick to four-wheel drive. Taxis operate on demand and can be arranged through most hotels and restaurants.
