The Potrero area rewards visitors who want to get into the water or onto it. The sheltered bay is well suited to swimming, and the wider Guanacaste coast beyond the headlands is among the best surfing and sport-fishing territory in the Americas. On land the pace is slow, which is itself part of the appeal.
