Getting There

The nearest international airport is Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia (IATA: LIR), about 75 kilometres and roughly 75–90 minutes by road. Liberia receives direct international flights from North America and, in high season, from Europe. San José's Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) is a further option but adds around three to four hours of driving through the mountains.

There is no direct public bus to Potrero. The practical options are a rental car (the road from Liberia is paved for most of its length but has rough sections on the final approach to the coast — a 4WD is strongly recommended in the wet season), or a shared shuttle van service, which several operators run from Liberia airport and San José to the Flamingo–Potrero area. Taxis from Liberia are available but expensive for the distance.

Once on the coast, the road between Flamingo, Potrero, and Brasilito is short and mostly flat.
