Santa Ana's historic center contains some of the finest 19th-century architecture in El Salvador, and the surrounding area offers volcano hikes, Maya ruins, and the scenic Ruta de las Flores coffee towns. The city is compact enough to explore on foot, but a car or local bus is needed for the excursions that make it worth staying more than a day.
