Sandy Bay is the quieter, more spread-out community between West End and Coxen Hole, on a long curved bay. It has none of West End's nightlife and a more middle-aged, family demographic — mid-range resorts (Anthony's Key, Mayoka Lodge), a couple of restaurants, and several of the island's larger attractions in walking distance: the Roatán Institute for Marine Sciences with its dolphin encounter, Carambola Botanical Gardens, and one of the better stretches of fringing reef.
A reasonable base if you want a calmer trip than West End and don't mind being out of the village at night.
