The Museum of the Revolution on the Frontier (MUREF) is the most comprehensive institution in the city for understanding the Mexican Revolution and its profound impact on the border region. The museum occupies a historic building near the old downtown and covers the period from the Díaz dictatorship through the revolutionary decade with a focus on events that played out specifically in Juárez and Chihuahua state.
The collection includes period photographs, documents, weapons, and personal effects of revolutionary leaders including Pancho Villa, who operated extensively throughout Chihuahua. The exhibits are intelligently curated and contextualise events that shaped the modern border — the proximity of the US, the cross-border arms and refugee flows, the role of El Paso as a watching-post for American officials observing the revolution unfold. Worth at least two hours.
